For the last 23 years Monique Hoch has been honing her craft as an artist. From her childhood days, growing up in Lancaster, Ohio, she has been drawn to form and figure. She studied and completed her Bachelors of Fine Art at The Columbus College of Art and Design. Monique works in several media. Watercolors, photography, pastels all have held her interest, but none has surpassed her love of oil. Her most recent series, Bugs and Blooms is an assortment of different insects juxtaposed with beautiful flowers. This contrast of our perception of what we think of as pleasing, combined with vivid colors and textures gives her work substance. In her previous group of oils, The Magic of the Butterflies, Monique is able to translate the beauty and frailty of these creatures into an image somewhere between reality and post-impressionism. Showings at Lolaleigh, Studio Fovero, Fairfield County Library Gallery and selections to Lancaster Festival Art Walk and Ohio Rising Exhibition are recent venues where her work has been displayed. For Monique it is about the inspiration. Seeing the little things around us for the amazing creations that they are. Slowing down a quickly spinning world, and taking the petals, the shadows, the raindrops and capturing their majesty and spirit in color, form and paint.
